Unusual Family Stories:

July 12, 1963: Michael Verbis died unexpectedly in a boating accident. He apparently lost his balance and was knocked unconscious after hitting his head on the cement dock, or the side of the boat. He may have survived if not for the combination of some unusual circumstances. After Michael fell, his Lithuanian hat which was made of a Styrofoam material kept his head afloat. Unfortunately, he had tracheotomy surgery which caused water to enter through his throat passage, and he soon drowned.

1938: Almira Rosegrant died during a botched cataract surgery. Ether was commonly used in the old days during surgery for anesthesia and cleaning medical tools. Almira received an overdose of ether that was poured onto a cloth and put over her face. She never woke-up from the surgery, and this was common in the old days.

1937: Alice Verbis was accidentally murdered during a mugging in Connecticut. She was walking down a city street when a man wrestled her purse away from her. She fell to ground and injured her head on the concrete. The head injury was fatal.
